Women's Swimming Battles Hard at Georgia Southern

STATESBORO, Ga. – The UNC Asheville women's swim team captured five events and battled Georgia Southern before falling on the road to the Eagles, 141-124.
The Bulldogs had fallen to GSU decisively the last two years but nearly upset the Eagles Saturday afternoon.
“I am so proud of this team and how we came together today to support each other,” stated Asheville coach Elizabeth Lykins. “We swam many season-best times this afternoon and had some bright spots against a strong Georgia Southern squad.”
The highlight of the meet for the Bulldogs was sweeping the 200 backstroke and earning 16 points. Freshman Emily Werth finished first and setting a freshman record with a time of 2:09.07. Ale Sanchez took second at 2:09.75, while Stephanie Smith took third at 2:11.78
Alessandra Troncoso won two individual events on the day. She took first in the 200 breaststroke with a season-best at 2:26.71. Shannon Kennedy had a season-best as well with a third-place finish at 2:29.47.
Troncoso also won the 100 breaststroke at a time of 1:06.47. Kennedy finished fourth with a mark of 1:10.30.
Also finishing first was Galen Brodo in the 1000 freestyle. She had a season-best time of 10:39.81. Sanchez came in third with a season-best mark of 10:51.32. Allie Snyder (11:03.49) and Erin Riggs (12:11.33) also had season-best in the event.
The 400 medley relay team captured first place with a time of 4:01.79. Asheville's winning quartet consisted of Emily Werth, Alessandra Troncoso, Alexandra Van Dorsten and Ashley Ireland.
Emily Werth took third place in the 200 butterfly as she posted a time of 2:12.47.
