Records Fall on Day One at Wingate Fall Frenzy

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's swimming team wrapped up a successful opening day at the Wingate Fall Frenzy which saw multiple school records fall on the opening day.

 

In total, three school records and one freshman record were broken on day one.  “I am very proud of our efforts today,” said head coach Elizabeth Lykins.  “We are racing well and are looking forward to Day 2 starting at 10:00 am, tomorrow.”

 

The day started off with the 200-yard freestyle relay team who came just six one hundredths (.06) of a second form eclipsing another school record with a time of 1:39.31.

 

In the 500-yard freestyle, Allie Snyder finished seventh overall with a mark of 5:07.63 after qualifying for the A final in the morning session.  Alejandra Sanchez swam a lifetime best in the event, touching with a time of 5:05.07 to win the B final and take ninth overall. 

 

Ashley Ireland broke the school record with a time of 24.25 in the 50-yard freestyle in the morning session before finishing 13th in the event with a mark of 24.37 in the finals.

 

The Blue & White capped the evening with a pair of records in the 400-yard medley relay asEmily Werth broke the school and freshman record with a leadoff time of 57.77 in the 100-yard backstroke leg.  Alessandra Troncoso, Alexandra van Dorsten and Alejandra Sanchez maintained the pace set by Werth to set the school record in the event, clocking a time of 3:57.64.

Asheville will continue at the Wingate Fall Frenzy starting at 10:00 am Saturday morning.
