Men's Soccer at High Point Tuesday Night in Quarterfinals of BSC Championship

11.10.2014 | Men's Soccer

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The red-hot UNC Asheville men's soccer team enters the 2014 Big South Conference Soccer Championships as the hottest team in the league. Matt Kern's club will be the sixth seed in the tournament and face third-seeded High Point Tuesday night at Vert Stadium starting at 7 p.m.

Tuesday's action can be seen for free on the Big South Network under the multimedia tag at uncabulldogs.com.

Asheville (5-8-1) has won four straight matches after winning at Campbell, 2-0 Saturday night. The Bulldogs finished the year with three straight shutouts and two consecutive road victories.

However, Asheville will be in for a tough challenge with the Panthers (9-7-2). High Point dominated the Bulldogs back on Sept. 27 as it won, 3-0. Kern believes the Dogs are a better team than they were that evening.

“We are thankful to have secured the sixth seed in the Big South Tournament,” stated Kern. “The boys are looking forward to competing against a powerful and speedy High Point team on Tuesday night in the quarterfinals.  I believe we are a better team than we were six weeks ago, and it should be an entertaining match.”

This will be the second time the teams have met in the Big South Tournament and first since the 20001 tourney when an eighth-seeded Panther team slipped past the top-seeded Bulldogs, 2-0 in Rock Hill.

Asheville's four-game winning streak is the longest for the Blue & White program since the 1996 team won five straight matches.

Senior goalkeeper Dan Jackson has fueled the great run by Asheville. He has allowed just one goal in the four-game winning streak. Jackson enters the tournament not allowing a goal in 345 minutes of action. The Chapel Hill native leads the nation in saves with 7.00 per game average.

Paul Egle tops the Dogs in scoring with four goals and 11 points. Freshman Victor Aguiar is second with four goals and 10 points. He scored twice at Campbell on Saturday night. Jackson Allen also has four goals for Asheville.
