Women Cross Country Takes 3rd at WCU

Dalton & Heisner Earn All-Conference Honors at Big South Conference Championship Meet

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's cross country team finished in fifth place, while the women's squad took sixth spot at the Big South Conference Championship meet that was held at Gardner-Webb on a wet and cold Saturday morning.

 

The Bulldog men improved from last year's sixth-place spot by taking fifth with 156 points. Asheville's women's team placed sixth with 109 points. Junior Erin Dalton and sophomore Sarah Heisner finished 11th and 12th respectively and earned Big South All-Conference honors for the second straight year.

 

Senior Adrian Etheridge made the Big South All-Academic team on the women's side, while Caleb Smith made it for the men's team.

 

Andy Thornburg led the Bulldog men's team with a 20th-place finish on Saturday. He posted a time of 26:36.80 over the 8K course.

 

Smith took 23rd at a time of 26:41.70. Nathan Kirse placed 36th with a mark of 27:40.90.  Patrick Osborne was right behind Kirse with a time of 27:49.50

 

Senior Brent Schouler rounded out Asheville's top five as he posted a mark of 27:52.40.

 

In the women's race, Dalton earned All-Conference honors once again as she ran the 5K course at a time of 18:53.23. Heisner was right behind Dalton as she posted a time of 18:55.34.

 

Etheridge came in 26th place on the day with a time of 19:28.59. Freshman Phoebe Schneider came in 28th at a mark of 19:33.88. Kasey Briggs was the Bulldog final runner placing on the day at 19:36.41
