The Bulldogs (3-15, 0-3 BSC) are searching for their first Big South Conference win this weekend. Asheville battled hard last weekend at home against two of the league's top teams in Radford and Liberty. The Blue & White won the first set against each opponent before falling in four sets.
“We played some good volleyball last weekend against two of the top teams in the Big South, and we're showing improvement,” declared Bulldog coach Frederico Santos. “However, we still could have played a little better and maybe we could have gotten a win or two. We've got to be more consistent in our matches. You can't have lulls.”
The Bulldogs face two teams off to good starts in Big South Conference play. Winthrop is 12-7 overall and 2-1 in league play. PC has a 7-8 mark and is also 2-1 in BSC action. The Blue Hose won at Winthrop last week in five sets.
“Our league is quite good this year from top to bottom,” stated Santos. “Both Winthrop and Presbyterian have excellent teams and posted good results throughout the year. We'll need to play extremely well to have a chance at winning.”
Sophomore outside hitter Shelby Erickson leads Asheville in kills with a 2.50 per set average. Christine Lakatos is right behind her with a 2.39 mark. Junior libero Bryn Pfeiffer tops the club in digs with a 2.86 average. That mark rises in Big South Conference play to 5.31. She has had at least 22 digs in each conference match. Junior setter Katie Davis is averaging 5.34 assists per set. Madison Vaughn is averaging nearly one block per set at 0.97.
