Cross Country Competes at USC Upstate

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The UNC Asheville men's and women's cross country teams participated in the Upstate Classic Saturday morning that was held at USC Upstate. The Bulldog women's squad took sixth place, while the men's team finished in a three-way tie for seventh spot.

 

Asheville's women's squad had 182 points as it finished behind Georgia Tech and Wake Forest and in front of Western Carolina, USC Upstate and Charleston Southern.

 

Junior Erin Dalton led the women's effort with a time of 18:35.96 over the 5K course as she finished in 18th place. Phoebe Schneider took 27th at 19:16.90. Scarlett Beamon came in 39th with a mark of 19:22.02.

 

Sophomore Sarah Heisner finished 42nd with a time of 19:24.43. Freshman Casey Greenwalt was right behind her in 44th at 19:26.48. Adrian Etheridge (19:26.91) and Kasey Briggs (19:33.25) rounded out Asheville's efforts on Saturday.

 

The men's team finished in a three-way tie with Winthrop and USC Upstate with 206 points.

 

Patrick Osborne topped the Bulldog efforts with a 37th-place finish and a time of 26:24.44 over the 8K course. Andy Thornburg wasn't too far behind in 40th at a time of 26:52.10.

 

Ryan Catrine and Skyler Winchester were 41st and 42nd respectively. Catrine posted a time of 26:52.51, while Winchester had a mark of 26:53.63. Caleb Smith took 46th at 26:58.11.

 

Jared Buddington (27:38.21) and Nathan Kirse (27:42.05) also competed for the Bulldogs.

 

UNC Asheville's final meet before the Big South Conference Championships takes place on Oct. 18 in Chattanooga when both Bulldog teams compete in the Front Runner Invitational.
