LYNCBURG, Va. – The UNC Asheville men's soccer team hits the road this weekend for a Big South Conference battle with Liberty on Saturday starting at Noon.
Saturday's matchup will be broadcast live by Liberty Flames Sports Network Television and also on ESPN3. In addition, the telecast can be seen on the Big South Network under the multimedia tag at uncabulldogs.com.
The Bulldogs (1-7-3, 0-3-2) are in search for their first league win on Saturday. It will not be easy at Liberty as the Flames are 7-4-1 overall and 2-3-0 in league action. LU is coming off a 1-0 road win at Longwood Wednesday night,
Asheville earned a 1-1 tie vs. #22 Winthrop last Saturday afternoon at Greenwood Field. The Bulldogs fell at Northern Kentucky, 2-0 on Wednesday night.
Asheville's last visit to Liberty was a positive one for the Blue & White. Two years ago, the Dogs finished the season at Liberty. With a 15-game losing streak and nothing to play for but pride, Matt Kern's club earned a point with a 0-0 tie against the Flames.
Jackson Allen leads Asheville in scoring with three goals. Paul Egle had a goal and three assists for five points. Senior goalkeeper Dan Jackson has played every minute of every match this year. He leads the nation in saves with a 7.18 per game average.
“We are really looking forward for the chance to play for three points at Liberty,” stated Kern. “They are a well-coached, possession based team that is playing well right now.”
Asheville is home next week for two matches with a non-conference battle with UMASS on Thursday (Sept. 30) at 5 p.m., followed by the final home match of the year vs. Longwood on Sunday, Nov. 2 at 1 p.m.
