ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team returns to Justice Center this weekend for two key Big South Conference matches.

The Bulldogs host Charleston Southern this evening at 7 p.m., followed by a match with Coastal Carolina Saturday at 2 p.m. Saturday's match with the Chanticleers is the team's annual Pink-Out Game as proceeds match will help raise money for the fight against breast cancer.

Both matches will be streamed live by the Big South Network and can be seen for free by going to the multimedia tag at uncabulldogs.com.

Asheville (5-17, 1-5 BSC) has played exciting volleyball in Big South matches this season. The Bulldogs may be 1-5 in league play but have captured games off every team they've played. Asheville has lost twice in five sets and three times in four sets. The Blue & White split a pair of matches last weekend as it lost at home to Gardner-Webb on Friday in five sets before rolling past South Carolina State in three sets last Saturday.

“These are big matches this weekend,” commented Bulldog coach Frederico Santos. “We need to find ways to start winning some matches. We're getting better with each week but it would be nice to get a pair of wins this weekend.”

CSU is looking for its first win in league play. The Lady Bucs are 9-16 overall and 0-7 in league play. The teams played a memorable five-set match last year in Charleston with the Bulldogs rallying for a 3-2 win.

“Charleston Southern is young like us. They're league record is misleading because they've played everybody tough,” admitted Santos. “We'll need to play good and consistent volleyball to have a chance at winning.”

Coastal Carolina is among the league leaders in the Big South this year. The Chanticleers (16-5, 5-2) come to Asheville on a roll after stunning South Carolina in three sets on Tuesday night.

“Coastal Carolina has been a pretty consistent team from the start of the year,” stated Santos. “They're playing very well right now and had an impressive victory over South Carolina Tuesday night.”

Shelby Erickson leads the Bulldogs in kills with a 2.51 per set average, followed by Christine Lakatos at 2.48. Bryn Pfieffer tops the club in digs at 3.03, followed closely by Lakatos at 2.98. Sophomore blocker Madison Vaughn leads Asheville in blocks at 1.03 per set.
