CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Senior runner Melanie Kulesz posted the highest finish for the women while freshman Dominic Collichio paced the men as the UNC Asheville cross country team finished fourth in the women's two-mile event and fourth in the men's 5k race at the 2013 Western Carolina Invitational.


On the women's side Florida took home first place at the event, with Furman and High Point finishing second and third, respectively. Asheville finished ahead of Big South foes Winthrop (sixth) and Gardner-Webb(10th), as well as host Western Carolina (fifth).


Kulesz ran a time of 11:54.32, earning 17th place at the event. Amy Castle (12:04.66) finished 26th, Sarah Heisner (12:05.30) finished 27th, Adrian Etheridge (12:11.36) finished 30th, Erin Dalton (12:15.80) finished 37th, Kelsie Rubino (12:19.51) finished 39th and Katie Gamble (12:20.02) finished 40th, giving the Bulldogs seven top-40 finishers.


The men's team came in fifth place out of 11 squads at the event, finishing behind Flordia, High Point, Furman and host Western Carolina.


Collichio finished the race with a mark of 16:18.51 to place 33rd, while Andy Thornburg (16:23.50), Brent Schouler (16:26.05) and Kevin Paradise (16:27.14) finished 37th, 38th and 39th, respectively, for the Blue & White.


UNC Asheville will next be in action when they host the Asheville Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, September 14.
