ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's soccer team will play an exhibition game on the road Saturday night when the Bulldogs travel to Davidson for a 7 p.m. match.
Asheville has been training since Monday to prepare for the 2013 season. The Bulldogs are anxious to improve on last year's 1-15-1 mark. The Wildcats are a perennial power in the Southern Conference. Davidson edged the Dogs last year in exhibition play, 3-2 at Greenwood Field.
Fourth-year coach Matt Kern says his team is ready for a match.
"We are looking forward to our exhibition match at Davidson,” stated Kern. “They are always well-coached, organized, and play a high-quality brand of soccer. It will be a great environment to get an early indication as to where we are at this point in pre-season.
“I am very pleased with our leadership and unity,” added Kern. “We have spent some time on collective defending, and speed of play. The boys are really looking forward to playing a match.”
The match with the Wildcats is Asheville's only exhibition. Kern's Bulldogs open the 2013 season at UNC Greensboro on Friday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m.
