Milan Ristic & Sarah Gentry Honored at ASHBY'S

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Two UNC Asheville track and field student- athletes earned Male and Female Athlete of the Year honors Sunday night at the athletic department's ASHBY awards at Kimmel Arena.

 

Milan Ristic was named Male Athlete of the Year, while Sarah Gentry was named Female Athlete of the Year.

 

Ristic won Big South Conference championships in the 60-meter hurdles during the indoor championships and then won the 110-meter hurdle championships at the outdoor meet on Saturday.

 

During the indoor season, he qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships and competed in the national meet at the University of Arkansas. He earned second team All-American honors.

 

Gentry won the 800 meters at the Big South Indoor Championships. She was also part of the distance medley relay team that finished in first place and earned a gold medal at the league meet. On Saturday at the league's outdoor meet, Gentry won the 800 meters for the second straight year in record-setting time as she both a Big South and school record in winning the race. Sarah also captured the 1,500 meters on Saturday.
