SAVANNAH, Ga. - The UNC Asheville volleyball team is back in action starting today at the Tiger Invitational at Savannah State.

The Bulldogs (0-4) look for their first win of the young season as Asheville will face New Mexico (11 a.m.) and Savannah State today. On Saturday, the Blue & White take on Maryland Eastern Shore (11 a.m.) and Southern Utah (3 p.m.).

Second-year coach Frederico Santos saw his team lose all four matches at the Gamecock Invitational last weekend, but Santos was hardly discouraged.

"We're a very young team and there were a lot of encouraging signs last weekend," commented Santos. "We played some good teams that are going to prepare us for the Big South Conference.

"Our team needs to keep working hard which they've been doing and get used to playing together," added Santos. "Once we get that going, we have the potential to be a very good team."

This will be the first time Asheville has ever played any of the teams it will face in the tournament this weekend.

"We don't know much about any of our opponents, and they probably don't know much about us," declared Santos. "We're going to try and improve with each match."

The Bulldogs will play their home opener Tuesday night when they face off against Western Carolina at Justice Center starting at 7 p.m.

"We like playing in these in-season tournaments but it sure will be fun to be playing back in Justice Center Tuesday night," added Santos.
