CHARLESTON, S.C. - The UNC Asheville men's program had three incoming signees, while the women had one as the four future Bulldogs played on Saturday in the Clash of the Carolinas which features the best prep men's and women's soccer players in North and South Carolina. The game took place at Blackbaud Stadium Saturday afternoon in 105 degree weather.
The North Carolina girls defeated South Carolina 2-1. North Carolina was clinging to a 1-0 lead late in the contest when future Bulldog and former Reynolds HS standout Shenny Lenhart made a perfect pass to Hannah Robinson of W.A Hough HS. Robinson scored to give the North Carolina squad a 2-0 lead in the 78th minute. South Carolina would score in the final minute to cut the margin to 2-1.
The boys' game was scoreless in the 33rd minute when South Carolina was called for a foul in the box. Future Bulldog and former T.C. Roberson star Trey Hemphill was selected to shoot the penalty kick. Hemphill buried the kick into the back of the net to give North Carolina a 1-0 lead.
Also playing for the North Carolina squad was midfielder Andrew Sotak and goalkeeper Jaron Bradley. Sotak started for the North Carolina squad, along with Hemphill. Sotak attended Fuquay-Varina HS, while Bradley went to Hough HS in Charlotte.
Bradley didn't start the match but played the second half in goal for North Carolina. He made two saves and held South Carolina off the scoreboard to preserve the win.
Hemphill's goal and Bradley's saves in the second half allowed North Carolina to win its second straight game in the series.
