HARRISONBURG, VA. - St. Bonaventure scored midway through the first half and held off a furious UNC Asheville rally in the second half as the Bonnies posted a 1-0 men's collegiate soccer victory over the Bulldogs Friday evening at the JMU/Fairfield Inn Invitational.
Daniel Iannactio scored at 23:29 of the first half for the game's only goal. He connected on a 10-yard blast to give the St. Bonaventure a 1-0 lead.
Asheville controlled the second half as it out-shot the Bonnies 13-6. St. Bonaventure goalkeeper Mitchell Mack made seven of his nine saves in the second half to keep the Bulldogs off the scoreboard.
"The first half was fairly even, but I thought we were not organized as well as we would like with our collective defending," stated Asheville coach Matt Kern. "The second half we had the majority of possession, and several good chances, but simply could not find the equalizing goal."
Bryan Bartels sparked the Asheville offense with five shots. Paul Egle, David Parra and Jake Hagedorn had two shots each.
The Bulldogs will play again on Sunday when they take on the host - James Madison starting at 2:30 p.m.
