Men's Soccer Hosts Mars Hill Saturday at 6 p.m.
08.19.2011 | Men's Soccer
The match was originally supposed to start at 2 p.m. but has been moved to 6 p.m. to accommodate Mars Hill. The teams will play three 30-minute halves as each club is preparing for the 2011 season.
The Bulldogs downed Elon on Wednesday, 2-1 in a 120-minute exhibition match. Asheville picked up goals from A.J. Iiames and Tim Kynast in the victory over a very good Phoenix club.
"We did a lot of good things against Elon," stated Asheville coach Matt Kern. "However, there were plenty of things we need to work on, as well. We let Elon have too much possession at times and let them control the match."
Kern expects a tough test from a talented Mars Hill squad. The Lions went 14-5-1 last season and are expected to challenge for the SAC title this season.
"Mars Hill had a good team," admitted Kern. "They have a lot of talent returning and are very quick up front. We're going to have to play well to have a chance at winning."
After Saturday's match, the Bulldogs will then spent a week getting ready for the opening of the 2011 season. Asheville will open up at home on Saturday, Aug. 27 vs. Mercer starting at 2 p.m. The Mercer match will be video-streamed and can be seen for a small fee at www.uncabulldogs.com.
