ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville senior goalkeeper Lassi Hurskainen will graduate on Saturday with a degree in Mass Communications. The popular goalkeeper leaves Asheville with a lot of great memories and records that will be hard to be matched in the coming years.
He also leaves behind a treasure trove of amazing You Tube videos that have been featured all across the globe. Hurskainen has interviewed by media outlets from the Asheville Citizen-Times to TV stations in Germany and Japan. The videos have garnered more than eight million hits.
The native of Finland completed his career as the program's all-time leader in saves with 409. He is second all-time in shutouts with 12. Hurskainen earned Big South All-Conference honors three different times (2008, 2010, 2011) and made the Big South All-Tournament teams three times, as well. In three of his years, Lassi played every minute of every match for the Bulldogs. One of his top games this season was a 15-save effort in Asheville's near upset of eventual national champion UNC Chapel Hill on Oct. 4. The Bulldogs lost to the Tar Heels 2-1 in overtime.
Lassi and his crew released one more video this week that has once again received world-wide attention and was featured on ESPN Take 2 earlier this week. The theme is Saving Christmas. You can watch below - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28UhWBppwzQ.
