ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville volleyball team will have something unique happening for them this week. They'll have an actual homestand. The Bulldogs open a three-game homestand Tuesday night at Justice Center against mountain rival Western Carolina starting at 7 p.m. Tuesday's match will be video-streamed and can be seen for a small fee at www.uncbulldogs.com.

Asheville is then home this weekend with a pair of Big South Conference matches. First-year coach Frederico Santos' club entertains Presbyterian College on Friday at 7 p.m., followed by a match with Winthrop Saturday at 4:30 p.m.

The Bulldogs (8-7, 2-1) split road matches this weekend in Virginia. Asheville lost 3-0 on Friday at Liberty but bounced back to take a 3-1 victory at Radford Saturday afternoon.

"We did a nice job picking up a win against a good Radford squad on Saturday," commented Santos. "We didn't play as well as we would have liked against Liberty and then lost a tough first set vs. Radford. However, we battled back and really raised the level of our play and earned an important road win."

Santos and his club are delighted to be at home for awhile. Asheville has played 14 of its 15 matches away from Justice Center this season. The Bulldogs only match at Justice this year was a thrilling 3-2 victory over Gardner-Webb on Sept. 23.

"We're excited about coming home for some matches," commented Santos. "Our team likes playing at home and to have three matches at home over a five-day span is something we're very happy about.'

Asheville faces Western Carolina on Tuesday and it will be the second meeting with the Catamounts this season. The Bulldogs fell in Cullowhee in four sets back on Sept. 13.

"Western Carolina will be a strong test for our club," admitted Santos. "We had a good match with them earlier this season, but they got key points at key times. All the sets were close and I expect more of the same on Tuesday. Hopefully, we'll be the ones getting the big points on Tuesday."
