CHARLOTTE, N.C. (BigSouthSports.com) - Senior goalkeeper Lassi Hurskainen of UNC Asheville garnered the Big South Conference Defensive Player of the Week honor for games played Oct. 3-9, the League announced today.

Hurskainen, a senior from Joensuu, Finland, notched 24 saves in two contests for the Bulldogs last week.  He got his week started with a career-best 15 saves against No. 3 North Carolina in a narrow 2-1 overtime loss to the Tar Heels on Oct. 4.  He followed that effort with nine saves in a 1-1 double-overtime tie with High Point on Oct. 8.  The honor marks his second-straight Big South Defensive Player of the Week plaudit.

Hurskainen leads the nation in two statistical categories. He tops all Division I goalkeepers in saves per game (7.36) and total saves (81).

He and the Bulldogs play at Big South foe Winthrop tonight at 7 p.m.
