Volleyball Wins at Radford Behind Moore's 14 Kills

RADFORD, Va. - Sophomore Anna Moore had a team-high 14 kills to lead UNC Asheville to a 3-1 victory at Radford Saturday afternoon at the Dedmon Center. The Bulldogs lost the first set, 26-24 but roared back to win the next three sets, 25-16, 25-15, 25-18.
Asheville (8-7, 2-1 BSC) bounced back from a tough 3-0 loss at Liberty to earn a key league road victory.
After falling behind, 18-14 in game one, Radford used a 7-2 run to take a 21-20 lead. However, Asheville would run off three straight to push ahead 23-21. Then with the score knotted a 24-apiece, back-to-back kills by freshman Rachel Wiechecki and Emily Hayes completed the 26-24 comeback win.
Asheville raced out to early six-point leads in games two and three, posting 25-16 and 25-15 wins and grabbing a 2-1 lead in the match. Moore sparkled in both sets with four kills in each game.
In game two, it was a 10-4 lead they would not relinquish. After the early advantage, Radford pushed across four straight points to get within 10-8, but the Bulldogs pulled away with a 7-2 run and cruised to the game-two win.
The Bulldogs scored the first five points of game three and hit .333 to grab the 2-1 advantage.
A 7-2 spurt to start game four and a .407 hitting percentage was all Asheville needed as it completed match in four sets.
For the Bulldogs, setter Hallie Morse dished out a match-best 38 assists and added 11 digs for a double-double. She also was a perfect 7-for-7 on attacks. Meredith Foster added nine kills and four blocks. Cindi Miller finished with 11 kills.
Asheville will start a three-game homestand on Tuesday when the Bulldogs host mountain rival Western Carolina at Justice Center starting at 7 p.m. Later in the week, Asheville entertains Presbyterian College (Oct. 7) and Winthrop (Oct. 8) in key Big South Conference matches.
