ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville volleyball team hopes to make it five wins in a row when the Bulldogs travel to Mercer tonight for a 6 p.m. match.

Asheville (8-6, 2-0 BSC) is coming off a dramatic five-set win over defending Big South Conference champion Coastal Carolina Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs trailed 2-1 but stormed back to win the fourth set, 25-21 and the fifth set, 15-11. It was Asheville's first win over the Chanticleers since the 2006 season.

"I'm really proud of our team for the job they did against Coastal Carolina," stated Asheville coach Julie Torbett. "We dug down deep and found a way to get a win. It was a wonderful team effort and hopefully when we get behind later in the year then we know we can come back."

Junior Cindi Miller continued her great play in the first month of the season. She registered a career-high 24 kills and was named Big South Player of the Week on Monday.

Asheville turns its attention to a Mercer club that is playing much better. The Bears are 6-11 on the season but have won four of their last five matches. This is a home-and-home series as Mercer will come to Justice Center on Oct. 26.

"We need to keep playing well, and this will be a tough match vs. Mercer," commented Torbett. "They're on a roll right now and it's never easy to win on the road."

The Mercer match starts a six-game road trip for the Bulldogs. Asheville travels to league foes Radford on Friday and High Point on Saturday.
