ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville volleyball team opens Big South Conference play at home Tuesday night when the Bulldogs host Gardner-Webb at Justice Center starting at 7 p.m. The match will be video-streamed and can be seen for a small fee at www.uncabulldogs.com. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children.

Tuesday's match is also the home opener for Asheville. The Bulldogs (6-6) have been on the road for the first month of the season and will be glad to be in the friendly confines of Justice Center. Julie Torbett's club is riding some momentum after Asheville captured the Western Carolina Invitational on Saturday. The Bulldogs downed North Carolina A&T in three sets and then beat the Lady Catamounts, 3-1 to earn the title.

"It was nice to win those two matches on Saturday and give us some positive momentum going into conference play," stated Torbett. "With the exception of one set, we played good volleyball and were consistent in all areas of our game."

Kelsey Benorden, Rachel Guinane and Cindi Miller were each named to the All-Tournament team at WCU. Miller leads the Bulldogs in kills with a 3.87 per set, while Benorden is averaging 3.65 kills.

Gardner-Webb has a 4-9 worksheet coming into tomorrow's match. However, Torbett knows that the Bulldogs will have a tough match on their hands with the Runnin' Bulldogs.

"Gardner-Webb is extremely well-coached, and we will have to play very well in order to get a win," explained Torbett. "Gardner-Webb has been in most of its matches this season and is starting to get some confidence."
