ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville Volleyball team opens the 2010 season on the road at the James Madison Coca-Cola Classis this weekend. The Bulldogs take on Davidson on Friday starting at 5 p.m. before playing James Madison (12:30 p.m.) and Stetson (5 p.m.) on Saturday.

Asheville head coach Julie Torbett looks forward to the upcoming season.

"We're looking forward to getting the season started," declared Torbett. "We'll face three tough opponents at James Madison this weekend so it should be a good tournament for us to play in to get the season started."

The Bulldogs graduated three starters and five key players from last year's Big South Conference regular-season championship team. Asheville finished 25-10 last year and set a school record for Big South Conference wins with 13.

"Last year was special but it's time to move on and get ready for 2010," admitted Torbett. "We have a good nucleus back from last year and have brought in some talented players that we think can help us right away."

The top returnee back is senior outside hitter Kelsey Benorden. She has earned first team All-Conference honors the past two seasons and was named National Player of the Week last November. She was a Big South Preseason All-Conference selection this year.

Junior outside hitter Cindi Miller will be a key player for Asheville. She has had some big matches for the Bulldogs over the past two seasons and could be ready to have a breakout year in 2010.
