Hot & Cold
by Jenna Dover
Have you ever been waist deep in an ice bath for twenty minutes? I can tell you from experience that it is not fun. The first two minutes are the worst; it nearly takes my breath away. Eventually, numbness brings its sweet relief. After five hours of volleyball and two hours of lifting, not being able to feel my legs is rather enjoyable. Even though I have a love/hate relationship with them, ice baths allow me to train harder and recover faster.
We have been sweating it out this week at practice, literally. Some of my teammates go through three shirts in one session. We can crumple a practice jersey into a ball and watch the sweat drip. Anytime a player dives on the floor, we have to stop and wipe the sweat streak she leaves behind.
With things heating up on the court, the cold tank has become an oasis. Our team does not have that "Pizza Hut" mentality when it comes to winning and losing. We want it all, and this is what it takes!
