ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville junior sprinter Natalie Pearson won the H.H. Zuegner Award as the top female collegiate athlete in Western North Carolina Sunday evening at the 52nd annual Mountain Amateur Athletic Club awards ceremony at the Grove Park Inn.

Pearson won the 200 meters in the Big South Conference Outdoor Track and Field championships last month. She set a school record in the process and during the 2010 season Pearson was ranked first in the nation in the 200 meters for two weeks. She is currently ranked 11th nationally in the 200. Natalie finished third in the 100 meters at the Big South Conference championships and also set a school record in the process. Pearson, a native of Sheffield, England, earned a spot on the Big South All-Academic team.

For the first time ever, UNC Asheville had two student-athletes in the Zeugner category. Volleyball standout Raquel Miotto was also a finalist after enjoying a spectacular senior season and career. Mitto completed her career as the school's and Big South's all-time leader in digs with 2,698. She was a first team all-conference performer and member of the league's all-tournament.

The UNC Asheville Big South Conference regular-season champion volleyball team was also a finalist for the Houser Shoes Award which goes to the top college female team of the year in Western North Carolina.
