Pearson & Haake Will Compete in East Regional Next Weekend

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville will have two track and field standouts competed in the NCAA East Regional in Greensboro next weekend  (May 28-29).

Junior sprinter Natalie Pearson has qualified for both the 100 and 200 meters. She is the defending Big South Conference champion in the 200 and holds school record in both events. Pearson is 11th in the region in the 200. The Sheffield, England native will be making her second straight appearance in the regionals this year.

Junior Simon Haake has qualified in the javelin. Haake has enjoyed a great year in the javelin in 2010 and finished fourth at the Big South Conference meet last month. He won the event at the Charlotte 49er Invitational in March.

"We're very excited to have two participants in the regionals this year," stated Asheville coach Jesse Norman. "Qualifying for a regional is a little tougher this year compared to the past few years. We believe both Natalie and Simon have the potential to do some damage there this year."
