Haake and Clodfelter Take 4th in Javelin at Big South Meet on First Day

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The javelin earned both the UNC Asheville men's and women's track and field squads their first points at the 2010 Big South Conference Championships being held at Charleston Southern this weekend.

Both squads earned five points on the first day of competition. And those five points came from fourth-place finishes in the javelin.

Junior Simon Haake continued his outstanding year as he set another school record in the javelin. His top throw was 64.57 meters and earned him a fourth-place finish. Haake has set a school record four different times this year.

Freshman Ashlei Clodfelter also set a school record in the javelin on Thursday. Her throw of 38.62 meters put her in fourth place, earning all five points for the Bulldogs.

Haake is also competing in the decathlon and stands in ninth place after the first day. His top event on Thursday was a second-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 12.18 meters.

Other results on Thursday on the men's side came from Kent Rankin in the 10,000 meters as he finished 10th with a time of 33:12. Jordan Yorbrough placed 12th in the long jump at 6.34 meters.

On the women's side, Kylie Smith finished 15th in the 10,000 meters with a time of 44:44.
