Bulldog Volleyball Plays at Charleston Southern & Winthrop This Weekend
10.08.2010 | Women's Volleyball
The Bulldogs (11-7, 4-1 BSC) are tied for second place in the Big South Conference standings with Winthrop heading into this weekend's action. Asheville has won seven of its last eight matches, including a four-set thriller at Presbyterian College Tuesday night.
However, Bulldog head coach Julie Torbett knows her team is in for two tough matches this weekend. Charleston Southern (6-12, 1-4 BSC) has beaten Asheville three straight years at the Buc Dome, while Winthrop (7-10, 4-1 BSC) has always been a tough place for anyone to win at over the years. The Bulldogs did defeat the Eagles last year in four sets at the Winthrop Coliseum.
"We have two really tough matches this weekend," stated Torbett. "Charleston Southern is always a struggle to beat at home. We've had great matches with them over the years, and most of the time we seem to go five sets with them. I have no doubt that Friday's match will go down to the wire.
"Winthrop is a very talented team that played a strong non-conference schedule," added Torbett. "They're playing quite well right now, and we'll have to be at our best to have a chance at winning."
