Asheville Outlasts Gardner-Webb In Five Sets

Volleyball Hosts Mercer on Tuesday; Six-Game Homestand Begins

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville volleyball team will finally get a chance to play some home matches in the friendly confines of Justice Center. The Bulldogs start a six-game homestand Tuesday evening against Mercer starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday's match with the Bears and all of the home matches will be video-streamed and can be seen at www.uncabulldogs.com.

Asheville (12-10) will look to snap a frustrating three-game losing streak on Tuesday. The Bulldogs have lost those matches all by 3-1 scores, including a match at Coastal Carolina Saturday afternoon.

"We need to play better," stated Asheville coach Julie Torbett. "There's really not much else to say except we need to play better in all areas of the game. I know what we're capable of, and we can improve our play. We simply need our team to step up and find ways to win sets and matches."

This is the second the Bulldogs have faced Mercer this season. Asheville downed the Bears 3-0 back on Sept. 28 in Macon. However, Torbett's club will see a Mercer (11-14) team that will bring a five-game winning streak into Tuesday's match.

"Mercer is playing much better now and they've done a nice job winning their last five matches," explained Torbett. "We're going to have better than we've been playing to pull out a win on Tuesday."

Torbett is glad to finally play some home matches. Asheville has played just three of its 22 matches at home this season.

"We like playing at home and seem to play a little better at home," stated Torbett. "It's good that we're not traveling for awhile and will have a chance to play at home in front of our fans. We need to have a good homestand."

Junior outside hitter Cindi Miller continues to have a great season in 2010. She tops the club in kills with a 4.13 per set mark. Miller posted 21 kills on Saturday at Coastal Carolina.
