"REASSURANCE"

When your back is against the wall, do you give up? When you lose a big match, do you throw in the towel on your season? Do mental, physical, or emotional tests scare you?

Self-doubt. Everyone experiences it from time to time, but it can be a vicious virus in an athlete's mind. It will lay dormant for months, but rear its ugly head when you least suspect. When I start to feel less than awesome about my performance, I read quotes from Muhammad Ali. Confidence just emanates from his words. It's contagious. Who better to take lessons in self-assurance from than the man who said, "I am the greatest. I said that even before I knew I was."

The Big South Conference is wide open this year. Anyone can take it; there's no untouchable team. On any given day, anything can happen. Upsets. Challenges. Victories. Defeats. To help us recommit to our preseason goal of winning it all, we made flyers for each player's locker and our coaches' offices - 2010 Big South Conference Champions - is written at the top with our Asheville " A" pictured underneath it. At the bottom lies this quote from Ali, "It's the repetitions of affirmations that leads to belief. And once that belief becomes a deep conviction, things happen."
