Indoor Track and Field Squads to Compete at Liberty on Saturday
01.28.2010 | Track and Field
The action kicks off Friday afternoon with the Multi Events. The Bulldogs are scheduled to open their competition early Saturday morning with competitors in the field events and preliminary rounds in the short sprints and hurdles.
Head Coach Jesse Norman is aiming towards his teams to improve on their times and marks from last week at ETSU and continue the chase for being a competitive team at the conference level.
"This meet is a bit smaller compared to the last few meets, but it will give us a great opportunity to continue to gain experience and hopefully place some individuals in the top 10," stated Norman.
Returning to action this weekend for the men is Eli Chirchir, who recorded a 1:56.84 in the 800 meters last weekend at the Niswonger Invitational, is scheduled to make his season debut in the 400 meters. His freshman teammate Raymond Urrutia will also join him in the 400. Urrutia is also in the line up for the 60-meters, which he currently holds the school record for at 7.05.
On the women's side, freshman Alyska Kalmeijer is scheduled to compete in the 1000 meters. Last week at the Niswonger Invitational, Kalmeijer finished 18th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:27.51. Fellow teammate Clair Powell will compete in the mile, after a solid performance in the 3K at ETSU. She finished 19th in that event with a time of 11:04.38.
