ASHEVILLE, NC - The UNC Asheville men's and women's indoor track and field teams are gearing up to compete in the 32nd annual Niswonger Invitational to be held at East Tennessee State this weekend.

The two-day competition is slated to begin on Friday morning with the preliminary rounds in the sprints and hurdles. The meet will continue over to Saturday with finals as well as some seeded and open races in the distance events.

Head Coach Jesse Norman is excited about both of his teams getting the opportunity to compete at a high caliber meet.

"This meet will give us an idea of were we stand against big level competition, "stated Norman. "Last week at App State we broke off some rust from Christmas break now we should be well fit to compete at a high level and see some solid performances."

Last Friday at the Appalachian, Open the women's team was led by freshman Melanie Kulesz. Kulesz finished first in the mile with a time of 5:18.05. Kulesz will look to continue her impressive freshman campaign this weekend as she will compete for the Bulldogs in the 800 meters, Mile and 3000 meters.

On the men's side, freshman Raymond Urrutia led the way for the Bulldog men last Friday at Appalachian. In his season debut in royal blue, he finished fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 23.09. Urrutia is scheduled to compete in the 60 meters and 200 meters for the Bulldogs this weekend.

Niswonger Invitational is expected to draw between 60-80 collegiate teams this weekend. East Tennessee State men's and women's track and field programs will host the event.  Representing the Big South Conference this weekend will be Gardner-Webb, High Point, Winthrop and UNC Asheville.
