ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville volleyball team plays its home opener against mountain rival Western Carolina Wednesday night at Justice Center starting at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children. The match can be seen via video-streaming for a small fee at www.bigsouthsports.com.

The Bulldogs (2-2) split their four matches at the North Carolina Central Invitational this weekend. Asheville knocked off South Carolina State and The Citadel but fell to UNC Wilmington and Elon.

Head Coach Julie Torbett believes her team is still developing in the early part of the season.

"We're a little banged up with some injures, and we're still trying to jell," commented Torbett. "We showed some real flashes of good volleyball this weekend and then struggled at times. We just have to keep working and keep improving."

Torbett expects a tough match with the Catamounts (0-3) Wednesday night. The Bulldogs downed WCU in four close games last year in Cullowhee.

"It's always a close match when we play Western Carolina," admitted Torbett. "Western Carolina is improved from last season. They played three very tough opponents to open the season. We'll have to play well to have a chance to beat them on Wednesday."

Asheville is back on the road this weekend when it plays in the USC Upstate Classic. The Bulldogs take on N.C. State, The Citadel and USC Upstate. Torbett's team does not return home until Sept. 22 against Gardner-Webb.
