ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville volleyball team will hosts its annual Blue-White Scrimmage Tuesday night at Justice Center starting at 7 p.m.

The scrimmage will be a fun event with the 2009 Bulldog team being introduced along with interaction with fans.

Asheville went 18-14 last season. The Bulldogs are a preseason pick to finish in third place in the Big South Preseason poll. Julie Torbett's club returns all but one starter from last year's club.

Asheville placed two players on the Big South Preseason All-Conference team in senior libero Raquel Miotto and junior outside hitter Kelsey Benorden. The Bulldogs open the 2009 season at the North Carolina Central Tournament this weekend. Asheville plays UNC Wilmington and South Carolina State on Friday and The Citadel and Elon on Saturday.

"We're a little banged up," commented Torbett. "We have some bumps and bruises but we're excited about the season getting ready to start. Our effort has been quite good in practice.

The Bulldogs play their home opener against mountain rival Western Carolina on Wednesday, Sept. 2 at Justice Center starting at 7 p.m.
