Volleyball Team Donates Volleyballs to U.S. Military in Afghanistan

ASHEVILLE, N.C.-- The UNC Asheville volleyball team donated some slightly used volleyballs to the U.S. military in Afghanistan last week.  Captain Kenneth W. Bath is in charge of the Physical Education Program with the Afghani military.  Capt. Bath is married to former UNC Asheville Volleyball player Courtney Tucker Bath.

According to UNC Asheville Head Coach Julie Torbett “Kenny asked if we could send him some used volleyballs since the soldiers were playing volleyball with soccer balls.  He said he had tried to get funding to purchase volleyballs since that is a popular sport to play in the military, but was unable to get approval.  I was happy to donate some of our older volleyballs to a good cause and to help him out.  I would imagine digging or spiking a soccer ball would hurt.”

The UNC Asheville players signed the volleyballs and boxed them up to ship out.
