Pearson Gains Experience at UK Trials

Pearson Finishes Strong at Duke Invitational

DURHAM, N.C. ? Natalie Pearson finished second in the 100 meters and third in the 200 meters to highlight the UNC Asheville track and field team's performance at the Duke Invitational on Saturday.

“We had some good results on the day,” commented UNC Asheville coach Jesse Norman. “I'm very pleased with how Natalie ran against some tremendous competition.”

Pearson took second in the 100 with a time of 11.93. She took third in the 200 with a time of 24.49.

On the men's side, Simon Haake finished eighth in the javelin with a personal best throw of 51.83 meters.  He also competed in the discus (33.68).

Other highlights during the weekend included Emily Pineda competing in the discus with a throw of 33.74 meters. Her sister Rebekah Pineda had a throw of 29.86 in the same event. Emily also competed in the hammer throw (36.96).

Emma Bussard had a time of 19:18 in the 5000 meters. Rachel Ambrosia worked hard in the 3000 steeplechase (12:41).

Corrie Trotter battled in the long jump (3.98). Erin Putnam had a time of 20:18 in the 5000. Michelle Busse went 5:27 in the 1500.

Will Beasley finished 17th in the long jump (6.41), while Daniel Corriher took 18th in the shot put (13.82).

Dane Corriher had a solid effort in the 400 meters and came in 14th with a time of 50.17. Andrew Burnette continued to work hard despite an injury as he competed in the 800 and finished with a time of 2:00.

Kent Rankin took 20th in the 5000 (16:03). Adam Matthews set a new PR in the 3000 steeplechase (9:39).

“The Big South Conference meet is in two weeks and that's what we're aiming for right now,” admitted Norman. “We want to be at our best when we go to Radford and score a bunch of points.”
