ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? The UNC Asheville men's and women's Outdoor Track and Field teams are in action again this weekend at the Winthrop Invitational.
“We're looking forward to the meet. This is a type of meet with 22 teams that should give our student-athletes some good experience,” commented second-year coach Jesse Norman. “We just want to continue showing some consistency and build for the Big South Conference meet in April.”
All eyes will be on junior sprinter Natalie Pearson. Pearson sat out last week's meet at Charlotte but is expected to run this weekend. She won the 100 and 200 two weeks ago at Coastal Carolina.
Last weekend at Charlotte, both teams got impressive performances from their steeplechase runners. Freshman Emma Bussard finished in third place with a time of 12:06. Teammate Rachel Ambrosia came in seventh place at 12:37. On the men's side, Adam Matthews finished ninth in the Steeplechase with a time of 10:04.
“Our goals are to get more people to move up and improve their conference times and standings,” admitted Norman.
The meet will begin on Thursday with the 100m hurdles of the Heptathlon at 2 p.m. and the 100m for the Decathlon at 2:30 p.m. Then on Friday the action starts at 10 a.m. with the 110m hurdles in the Decathlon and the day will end with the Long Jump scheduled at 7 p.m. Saturday's events start at 9 a.m. and will run until the last one scheduled for 3:15 p.m.
