ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? The UNC Asheville men's and women's Outdoor Track and Field squads head to Charlotte on Thursday for the 49er Classic this weekend.

Both Bulldog teams will be looking to build on last weekend's first meet at Coastal Carolina.

“We accomplished some good things at Coastal Carolina but there are some places we want to show improvement, as well,” commented second-year coach Jesse Norman. “This will be a good meet for both teams. There will be a lot of good programs from throughout the country competing at Charlotte. We will face some excellent competition.”

The big highlight from last week was the brilliance of junior sprinter Natalie Pearson.

Pearson won both the 100 and 200 at Coastal Carolina last weekend. Pearson finished first in the 100 with a time of 12.08. She took first in the 200 with a time of 25.03.

“Natalie got off to a great start to the outdoor season with her performance last weekend,” declared Norman. “She'll face some pretty stiff competition this weekend, but I know Natalie is quite excited about competing against some of the bigger programs.”

On the men's side, Sam Maynard came in 13th place in the 3000 meters with a time of 9:02. He is having a solid freshman season.

“We just want to keep improving and stay healthy,” said Norman. “We also want to start getting contributions from a lot of different people. We're starting to make progress in that area.”
