ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville volleyball team will try to move back into a tie for place in the Big South Conference when the Bulldogs travel to Gardner-Webb Tuesday night at 7 p.m.

Asheville (20-8, 9-2 BSC) is a half-game behind league-leader Liberty (10-2) after the Bulldogs dropped a heart-breaking five-set decision at Charleston Southern on Saturday. They'll play at Liberty Friday night but a tough match awaits Asheville at Gardner-Webb.

Julie Torbett's team defeated Gardner-Webb earlier this season in four close sets.

"Gardner-Webb is a scrappy team that makes nothing easy for you," commented Torbett. "We're going to have to be at our best to win. They have some good hitters and are extremely well-coached."

Torbett knew Asheville would be in for a challenge on Saturday at Charleston Southern.

"We had to go five sets to beat Charleston Southern at our place. They had just beaten Coastal Carolina and Gardner-Webb, so we knew we would have our hands full," explained Torbett. "We played some good volleyball on Saturday but made some mistakes with serving errors that just got us at the wrong time."

Senior blocker Lauren Ficker continues to have a great season for the Bulldogs. She posted 20 kills and three blocks against the Bucs. Kelsey Benorden had her 13th double-double of the year with 16 kills and 16 digs. Asheville also had 30 hitting errors on Saturday.
