Volleyball Takes Five Set Victory at Radford

Miotto Earns Fifth Defensive Player of the Week Award

CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- UNC Asheville libero Raquel Miotto has named Big South Defensive Player of the Week while Liberty's Chelaine McCarty has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Volleyball Player of the Week. Presley Mabrey of Presbyterian was tabbed The Crons Brand Freshman of the Week, the League announced today.

 Miotto, a senior from Sau Paulo, Brazil, posted 72 digs and averaged 7.20 digs per set to help Asheville to clinch the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Big South Conference Volleyball Championship presented by Musco.  Against Coastal Carolina on Nov. 13, Miotto posted her first 40-dig match of the season as she came up with 41 digs against the Chanticleers.  In the Bulldogs' win over Winthrop the next day, she dug up 31 balls to help Asheville to the 3-2 win.  The honor marks her fifth Defensive Player of the Week selection.  Miotto is also currently ranked No. 4 All-Time nationally with 2,660 digs in her career digs.

McCarty, a senior from Houston, Ala., put down 27 kills, hit .451 and averaged 3.38 kills per set to lead her Lady Flames to a 2-0 record in Conference action last week.  McCarty got her week started with 10 kills on .529 hitting to go along with four blocks and one dig as Liberty downed High Point 3-0 on Nov. 10.  Four days later at Charleston Southern, she stayed hot with 17 kills and a .412 average at the net.  She also chipped in six digs and four blocks to lift the Lady Flames to the 3-2 win over the Lady Bucs and the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Big South Conference Volleyball Championship presented by Musco.  The honor marks her third Player of the Week nod this season.

Mabrey, an outside hitter from Lyman, S.C., found the floor for 30 kills, posted a .302 hitting percentage and averaged 3.33 kills per set to help her Blue Hose close out their season with two League wins.  She got things going with 15 kills, a .333 attack percentage and four digs in PC's 3-2 win over Gardner-Webb on Nov. 10.  Against Radford on Nov. 14, Mabrey put away 15 kills, came up with 10 digs and notched two blocks as Presbyterian downed Radford, 3-1.  The honor marks Mabrey's first Freshman of the Week plaudit this season.

Top seeded UNC Asheville will face eighth seeded Radford on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. in the first round of the Big South Championship presented by Musco. (#2) Liberty will face (#7) Gardner-Webb at Noon on Thursday. The other two matches will see (#3) Winthrop face (#6) Charleston Southern at 2:30 p.m. and (#4) Coastal Carolina vs. (#5) High Point at 5 p.m.
