Men's Soccer Has Four Honored by Big South

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's soccer team had four players honored by the Big South Conference on Friday as the league announced its all-conference teams and award winners for the 2009 season.

Sophomore forward Bryan Bartels was named second team all-conference. Bartels played in all 20 matches and started 12 times for the Dogs. He scored two goals and one of his goals was a game-winner against Lipscomb on Sept. 18.

Asheville had two players make the all-freshman team. Rookie midfielder David Parra and forward Zachary Odum made the 12-person team. Parra played in all 20 matches and started 17 times. He scored one goal on the year. Odum played in 20 matches but only started one time. However, he was tied for the team lead in goals with three and was second on the team in points.

Sophomore midfielder Jake Hagedorn made the All-Academic team for the first time in his career. Hagedorn stated 19 times and was tied for the team lead in goals with three. He is an outstanding student with a 3.75 GPA and is majoring in chemistry.
