10.30.2009 | Men's Soccer
Asheville (6-8-2, 2-3-1 BSC) went 2-2 on a four-game road trip and will end the regular season with three matches, two of them at home. The first is a match with the powerful Chanticleers (5-2-6, 2-0-3 BSC). The Bulldogs have lost two straight but played well in defeats at Winthrop (3-1) and Gardner-Webb (2-1).
"We went against two of the best in the Big South Conference on the road and at times held our own," commented Asheville coach Steve Cornish. "However, when you make mistakes against teams of that caliber they make you pay and both clubs did that against us."
Cornish is glad that his team will finally get a chance to play at home. The Bulldogs have not played a match at Greenwood Field since Oct. 6 against Presbyterian.
"Our lads are glad to be at home," declared Cornish. "Coastal Carolina is an excellent team, but we're glad to have them on our home field. We'll need to be at our best tomorrow against Coastal to have a chance at a result."
NOTES - UNC Asheville goalkeeper Lassi Hurskainen leads the Big South in saves with 100...the Bulldogs have scored 18 goals on the year from 12 different players...six different Asheville players have scored a winning goal this season...Asheville has dropped its last six meetings to Coastal Carolina with five of them being by a 1-0 score.
