ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville volleyball team gets back to work on Saturday when the Bulldogs host Big South Conference foe Radford at Justice Center starting at 2 p.m. The match will be video-streamed and can be seen for a small fee at www.bigsouthsports.com.
Saturday's contest will be UNC Asheville's annual "Dig Pink" match. The Bulldogs are teaming up with the Side-Out Foundation to battle breast cancer. Julie Torbett's team will be wearing pink uniforms and auction those uniforms off after the match to raise money. Fans will be able to make donations on-line at UNC Asheville's web-site at www.uncabulldogs.com or at the match.
"We're very pleased to team up with the Side-Out Foundation for our annual Dig Pink match," commented Torbett. "Everyone knows somebody who has been affected by breast cancer. We're glad to do out part to help fight this dreaded disease."
The Bulldogs (18-7, 7-1 BSC) look to stay in first place in the Big South Conference when they battle Radford (11-14, 1-8 BSC). Asheville is looking to break a two-game losing streak as the Bulldogs fell at Coastal Carolina last Saturday in five sets and then dropped a disappointing five-set decision at home to ETSU Tuesday night.
"We need to get back to playing better," declared Torbett. "We have a target on our back, and we're going to get everyone's best shot. Radford gave us a great match earlier this season. I expect another tough match on Saturday."
The Bulldogs edged the Highlanders in five sets back on Sept. 25.
"Radford is much better than its record," said Torbett. "They've lost a lot of close matches, including a five-setter to us. We're going to have play well to have a chance at winning."
NOTES - UNC Asheville is 5-1 at home this season...the Bulldogs lead the Big South in hitting percentage at .241...senior libero Raquel Miotto leads the Big South in service aces (0.53) and digs (5.19)...senior middle blocker Lauren Ficker is third in hitting at .345.
