10.02.2009 | Men's Soccer
Asheville (4-5-1) has won three of its last four matches and the only loss was a solid effort in a 3-1 defeat at #20 Kentucky last Sunday. The Bulldogs edged ETSU 1-0 on Tuesday on a goal from Jake Hagedorn.
Asheville faces a strong High Point squad on Saturday. The Panthers are 5-3-0 on the season and opened Big South play on Wednesday with a stunning 5-0 victory at Gardner-Webb. The Runnin' Bulldogs had previously beaten Clemson and were 2-0 in league play until the loss to High Point.
"We've played some good soccer in the past few weeks, and we'll have to continue to do that on Saturday against High Point," stated Bulldog coach Steve Cornish. "They have posted some impressive results in both non-conference play and with their win at Gardner-Webb."
Asheville goalkeeper Lassi Hurskainen has made 60 saves in the nine matches he's played and has a 1.55 goals-against-average. The Bulldogs have three players tied for the team lead as Connor Holzinger, Jake Hagedorn and Bryan Bartels all have two goals each. Holzinger is the team leader in points with six as he has two assists.
The teams played to a 1-1 tie last year at High Point.
NOTES - The Bulldogs have played seven of their first 10 matches away from Asheville...three of the Bulldogs losses this season have come against nationally-ranked teams in North Carolina, Georgetown and Kentucky...Asheville hosts Presbyterian on Tuesday.
