ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? The UNC Asheville men's and women's Indoor Track and Field squads are back in action starting Friday evening at the Niswonger Invitational at East Tennessee State. The meet will also run all day on Saturday.
Second-year coach Jesse Norman's teams showed improvement from its first meet at Appalachian State to last week at Liberty. Norman wants that improvement to continue this weekend.
“We need to continue the momentum of what we have accomplished in the first two meets,” stated Norman. “We've had some great individual performances and want to have more this weekend.”
Norman knows that both Bulldog teams will be up against strong competition at East Tennessee State. The Niswonger is one of the oldest and most prestigious indoor meets in the country.
“We will see some very good teams and excellent competition at the Niswonger,” admitted Norman. “I am anxious to see how we perform.”
Junior sprinter Natalie Pearson has been performing very well for the Bulldogs. She won the 60 and 400 meters at Liberty last weekend and earned Big South Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors on Wednesday.
Other highlights last Saturday included great distance running by freshman Sam Maynard. Maynard finished second in the 800 and the mile. He posted a time of 1:59.54 in the 800 and 4:27.40 in the mile.
