Bryan George Named Big South Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. ? UNC Asheville midfielder Bryan George has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Soccer Player of the Week for games played Sept. 15-21, it was announced today by the league office.

George, a freshman from Newton, N.C., put in two goals to lead the Bulldogs to a 2-1 record on the week. His first goal of the week came against Longwood on Sept. 16 as he headed in a pass from Alex Morrow to give Asheville the 2-0 lead in the 76th minute.  The Bulldogs added another goal later in the match and held on to beat the Lancers, 3-2.

With the score tied at 2-2 against Belmont in the Hyatt Place Select-Brentwood Invitational three days later, George blasted in the game winner with 11 minutes left to play to lift Asheville to the 3-2 win and give Bulldog head coach Steve Cornish his 100th win.  George was named to the All-Tournament team along with teammates Patrick Tate and Alex Morrow.

George and the Bulldogs return to action at home on Saturday against the Kentucky Wildcats.  Kickoff is at 2:00 p.m.
