Cross Country Looks to Improve at Liberty Big South Preview

ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? UNC Asheville's cross country teams will compete at the Liberty Big South Preview in Lynchburg, Va. on Saturday morning.

The Bulldogs will race against competitors from Charleston Southern, High Point, Liberty, Radford, and VMI.

Saturday's contest will give the participants a first-hand look at the course that will host the New Balance Big South Cross Country Championships on Nov. 1.

Head coach Jesse Norman believes it is important for his runners to get familiar with the course on Saturday so they will know what to expect at the Big South Championships.

“This meet gives us a good idea of how we need to race in order to be successful in November,” said Norman.  “It's the only course we run twice in the same year, so getting familiar with the course will help us out a lot.”

UNC Asheville is coming off of a disappointing performance in last week's Bojangles' Invitational in which the men's team placed sixth and the women's side finished seventh.

Norman is looking his team to rebound on Saturday and gain momentum for the season's later races.

“Pretty much every team that is ranked ahead of us in the conference will be there,” said Norman.  “We'll get to see where we shake out and what we need to work on.”

The men's 8-kilometer race will commence at 9:30 a.m. and the women's 5K will follow at 10:00 a.m.

Results from Saturday's meet will be posted on www.uncabulldogs.com following the conclusion of the women's race.
