Men's Soccer Plays at Elon on Friday and Sunday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? The UNC Asheville men's soccer team is back in action this weekend at the Elon Invitational with matches on Friday and Sunday.

 

The Bulldogs face two former Big South club on those days. Asheville faces Elon Friday night starting at 7:30 p.m. and then takes on UNC Greensboro Sunday at 1 p.m.

 

Steve Cornish's club is 0-1 on the young season after a frustrating 1-0 loss to Appalachian State at home Saturday afternoon. The Apps scored in the 85th minute to post the victory.

 

“The ASU match was a tough loss but we simply have to move past that result and get ready for this weekend,” declared Cornish. “We have two difficult opponents to prepare for and play against.”

 

Elon defeated Asheville last season at Greenwood Field, 2-0. The teams played two years ago at Elon with the Phoenix scoring a late goal to win, 2-1.

 

The match with UNC Greensboro will be the Bulldogs first against the Spartans since the 1996 season when UNCG defeated Asheville, 5-2 in Greensboro.

 

UNC Asheville returns home Tuesday afternoon to host Longwood at Greenwood Field starting at 4 p.m.
