Volleyball to Compete at N.C. State Tournament This Weekend

ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? The UNC Asheville volleyball team is back in action this weekend at the Hilton/RTP Classic at N.C. State. The Bulldogs play two matches on Friday and one match on Saturday.

UNC Asheville is 3-3 on the season after going 2-1 at USC Upstate last weekend. The Bulldogs won easily over Hampton and USC Upstate but fell in four close games to Wofford.

“We played some very good volleyball last weekend at times but then we weren't as consistent as we needed to be against Wofford and it cost us,” stated UNC Asheville coach Julie Torbett. “We're making progress but I really want us to work on our consistency.”

The Bulldogs face Colonial power William & Mary on Friday at 10 a.m. and then battle Norfolk State from the MEAC Friday at 5 p.m. UNC Asheville plays N.C. State Saturday at 7 p.m.

“This is a good tournament for us to be in at this point of the season,” commented Torbett. “We will face some good competition this weekend starting with William & Mary.”

Last weekend, the Bulldogs placed two players on the all-tournament team at USC Upstate as junior blocker Lauren Ficker and sophomore outside hitter Kelsey Benorden enjoyed three good matches.
