Track and Field Competes at Western Carolina on Saturday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? The UNC Asheville men's and women's Track and Field team is back in action on Saturday at the Western Carolina Invitational. The meet is scheduled to last all day long.

Last weekend in Charlotte, both Bulldog teams had some solid results. First-year coach Jesse Norman is looking for that progress to continue on Saturday.

“I was really pleased with some of our results in Charlotte,” stated Norman. “We had good results in a lot of different events and that's what we're looking for in each meet.

“We still have some key people out with injuries but hopefully we can keep improving and get healthy by the time the Big South Conference Meet rolls around,” added Norman.

One of the biggest highlights of the weekend was in the 800 meters where Andrew Burnette set a new PR with a time of 1:55. He finished eighth in the event that had over 50 runners competing.

On the women's side, the Bulldogs had good work in the 1500 meters. Elizabeth Duncan finished second in her flight with a time of 4:52. Katie Olert (5:21), Emily Becker (5:21) and Katherine Clark (5:31) all had PR's.

One big highlight for Asheville in the field events was from senior Erik Nabi in the Javelin. He won his flight with a toss of 51.12 meters and finished 12^th overall.

Omar Ahmad finished 13^th against strong fields in both the long jump (6.37 meters) and triple jump (13.31).

Corrie Trotter had a strong day with a seventh-place finish in the high jump (1.55). She had a 4.67 leap in the long jump. Morgan Weeks also competed in the long jump (4.56) and javelin (25.25).
