ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? The UNC Asheville men's soccer team plays its final home game on Saturday morning when the Bulldogs host Wofford at Greenwood Field starting at 11 a.m. Admission is free.

Prior to the match, UNC Asheville will honor its eight seniors who will play for the final time at Greenwood Field. The eight seniors are Caleb Alexander, J.W. Gallagher, Ryan Haupt, Benjamin Meyer, Alex Morrow, Nathan Neal, Patrick Tate and Scott Szymanski.

The Bulldogs (5-7-2, 3-3-1 BSC) are trying to build on the momentum of their last two matches. Asheville upset Winthrop last Saturday, 1-0 and then earned a 1-1 tie at High Point Tuesday night. It will not be easy as the Terriers bring a 5-11-0 overall record into the match. However, Wofford owns a 1-0 victory over Furman and has been in just about every one of its matches this year.  Asheville finishes the regular season next Saturday at Big South foe Liberty.

“We've had two good results but we need to continue to play well,” commented UNC Asheville head coach Steve Cornish. “Wofford is a good team that like us has been a bit unlucky in some matches this season. However, they just posted a fine result over Furman and will be a tough match on Saturday.”

The Bulldogs continue to play exciting soccer. In Asheville's 14 matches, only one match has been decided by more than one goal. Freshman goalkeeper Lassi Hurskainen has played every minute of every match this year. He has two shutouts and a sparking goals-against-average of 1.26. Scott Szymanski leads Asheville in goals scored with four. Alex Morrow has three goals and two assists for eight points.

“Our lads have played well for most of the season,” declared Cornish. “We have been in every match and want to continue to build momentum for the Big South Conference Tournament in two weeks.”
